Privacy Policy

This is a personal portfolio site. It has no user accounts, no shopping cart, and no advertising. The only information it holds is what you deliberately send me, plus anonymous figures about how the site is used. This page explains all of it in plain language.
What I Collect
When you use the contact form: your name, your email address, and the subject and message you write. If you tick the optional box, I also record that you agreed to receive occasional QA writing from me.
This goes straight to my inbox. There is no database behind this site, so nothing you send is stored on it.
Nothing else is asked of you. You can read every page, watch every talk, and browse every project without giving me anything at all.
The AI Assistant
The chat window answers questions from a prepared summary of my public work — my articles, talks, projects and career history. It knows nothing about you.
Your questions are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a reply. They are not stored, not linked to you, and not used to train any model. Closing the tab ends the conversation for good.
To stop the assistant being abused, the number of questions from a single network address is capped over a rolling period. That address is held briefly in memory to count requests and is never written to disk, linked to your messages, or used for anything else.
Analytics & Browser Storage
I use a privacy-focused analytics provider to see which pages people read and roughly which region they visit from. The figures are aggregated and anonymous — they cannot identify you, and they are not shared across other websites.
This site sets no cookies. It does keep three small values in your own browser: the language you picked, how many chat questions you have asked, and whether you dismissed the chat prompt. They stay on your device, are never sent to me, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Who Else Is Involved
Running the site relies on a small number of specialist providers: one that hosts the site, one that delivers contact form messages to my inbox, one that produces the anonymous usage figures, and one that powers the AI assistant.
Each only receives what it needs to do its job, and none of them is permitted to use your information for their own purposes. I am happy to name any of them — just ask.
What I Never Do
- Sell, rent, or trade your personal information
- Use tracking cookies or advertising pixels
- Build a profile of you across other websites
- Add you to a mailing list you did not ask for
- Use your messages to train AI models
Your Rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you can ask me for a copy of anything I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. You can withdraw your consent to hear from me at any time.
In practice that means the messages you have sent me. Since nothing is stored on the site itself, a deletion request is simple and I will confirm once it is done.
